A young boy steals a lantern and pins it on the player. What is this rascal up to?
The Homeward Vow Walkthrough
[1] Enter the Skybrim Market.
A boy steals from a merchant and pins the player as their guardian responsible for their antics. The player argues with the merchant and decides to look for the troublemaker.
[2] Look for the Unknown Boy.
The boy can be found at the nearby stall sellings masks. He says that he will let the player become his attendant as he is the future Governor of the land. He then runs off, telling the player to follow him.
[3] Follow the Unknown Boy.
The boy will move eastwards in the market until the two of you are in front of a hidden cave only he apparently knows about. Enter the cave.
The following is a table with the locations of all the chests that can be found in the cave and tower. They will be available to attain throughout a number of steps from this walkthrough. Click the links to the chest to get more information on how to acquire them!

Enter the cave and move forward. In this area, only a single jump can be used. Utilize the ladder and wooden platforms to go upwards. Once upstairs, be careful not to be seen by the patrolling guards.
Open the large gates to the west. The player will be back in a cave-like area with a giant snake. Discuss with the Unknown Boy, A'Hui, on what to do next. He proclaims that he will move forward and kill the governor of Hexi, Zhang Yichao.
Follow A'Hui and climb towards the large painting-like portal. Enter the portal.
The player will be transported into a desert environment. Move forward and pick up the military flag.
[4] Watch the life of Zhang Yichao.
The next scenes will now all focus on Zhang Yichao,. from a young man to his later years. Investigate the table.
Move on forward and pick up the military flag.
Again, move forward and pick up the military flag. Then, talk to Zhang Yichao. A scene between him and his master will start. Zhang Yichao feels impatient, feeling unaccomplished at 33 years old while others have done worthwhile whilst being younger. His master tells him the road to success involves a lot of waiting for the right time and not to fret.
Move forward again and wait for Zhang Yichao's monologue to finish. Place the previous military flags onto the sand box. Enemies will then appear. Go and defeat them while protecting Zhang Yichao.
[5] Find a way out of the cave.
The player will be transported back to the cave with A'Hui. Follow the sound of the bell and hit it with an arrow in order to gain the attention of the large snake.
Climb upwards on the snake and try to avoid the snake's movements. Leap through areas until A'Hui is in sight again.
Climp up the snake until the bell is in view. Hit the bell with an arrow to make the snake move.
Climb towards the head of the snake and go down the building structure. Get to the other side of the building and keep leaping on the lit lanterns until arriving at the other side.
Pass through the building at the end of the lanterns and enter the painting. Follow A'Hui in the area with water and hanged large scrolls.
Keep following A'Hui while listening to the dialogues between various people and Zhang Yichao. At the last area, the shadow of the snake will start to appear.
After the short cutscene, the player will be transported back into the cave. Keep moving forward while dodging the snake which will be following the player around, waiting for a chance to strike.
Leap with the prompts and make sure not to be caught by the snake or it might mean instant death. If the player does die, they will respawn again to this area.
At the end of the chase will be another painting portal. Enter it.
The player and A'Hui will be transported to a long hall filled with large ministers at the side and a throne at the end of the hall. Walk forward and follow A'Hui.
After passing the kneeling Zhang Yichao, A'Hui and the player come to an unspoken agreement. The player will be given several quick-time events in order to face the giant snake, ultimately defeating it.
The player will be transported back to the cave. Leap up the rocks to find A'Hui. He will say that the snake was Zhang Yichao in a way, but he isn't sure if this means he has actually saved Liangzhou or not. He will run up the stairs. Follow him.
Talk to A'Hui in front of the large painting. He talks about how Zhang Yichao had few indulgences in life, and how this paitning was one of them.
Follow A'Hui upstairs to meet Zhang Yichao and watch the final cutscene.
