The Gilded Chase Quest Summary

It looks like Master Wuhen has a persistent visitor, a Phantom Thief from Well of Heaven, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor! This time the thief plans to steal Master Wuhen's boat on his birthday! How will he pull this off?

The Gilded Chase Walkthrough

[1] Head to the Bounty Board.

[2] Listen to what the crowd is discussing.

Jun Bujian's word has an unimaginable weight. He's from the Well of Heaven, known to take from the rich and give to the poor. He loves to steal from Master Wuhen in particular. He likes to send a letter as a warning.

This time, he is planning to steal Master Wuhen's boat!

[3] Head to the Riverside Station.

Arriving there, you see a crowd surrounding Old Jin.

[4] Talk to Old Jin.

He tells you that Master Wuhen's Mirage boat is a business opportunity for the both of you.

[5] Go to the dock to check the situation.

You find out from the Zither Keeper that you need an invitation to get into the boat—an invitation that the young master can't literally afford. Fortunately, she tells you of another way to get an invitation, and that is to capture Jun Bujian.

[6] Find Southern Wayfarer (Officer Nan) to accept the bounty.

Prove to him that the young master has what it takes to capture the Phantom Thief.

[7] Go to the rooftop and use Wind Sense to check the surroundings.

Using your Wind Sense, you observe the following:

・The Guqin Elder has stiff fingers, "as if drained of strength, and yet he doesn't want to rest…"
・An Old Craftsman and his Apprentice having trouble with the lost diagrams.
・The people talking about the Five Shadow Phantoms that stole Jiangnan's North Temple Pagoda.

[8] Report your findings to Officer Nan.

[9] Check who is playing the Guqin.

This Guqin Elder singing sounds, as Officer Nan says, like a dying cat. The Elder serves a warning. After disappearing, Officer Nan gives you the invitation you needed.

[10] Wait until tomorrow at Xu hour.

You can wait or adjust the time in the settings menu.

[11] Board the ship.

[12] Cleanse your hands and face.

[13] Head to the Painted Boat's second floor.

At the second floor, you meet:
・Master Wuhen
・Sassy Seeress
・Wan Shengying
・Jin Zhongyuan
・Zhang Sanshui

[14] Find Officer Nan.

Nobody wants to provide you information, but he has your back.

Note: If the bug isn't fixed yet, you won't be able to find Officer Nan. You can exit the game and come back to it.

[15] Search for the Master Thief's whereabouts.

・Play mahjong with Jianghu people.
・Ask Old Jin for information.
・Ask Jin Zhongyuan for information.
・Ask the Book Keeper for information.

[16] Check the abnormal fireworks.

You can hear copper rattling inside.

[17] Eavesdrop on the maids' chatter.

The money from the invitation sales has gone missing!

[18] Check your findings.

Clues obtained:

・Currency Irregularities

According to card players, a high roller exhanged gold and silver for copper coins, alerting the authorities. Officials traced it and found the buyer was likely Master Wuhen.

・Old Jin's Discovery

The fireworks on the Mirage Boat seem to contain a large amount of copper coins. Perhaps this is Master Wuhen's doing.

・Hero Jin's Discovery

Flood have been frequent in recent years, making life hard for the coastal people. Many are forced to work as boat traders for the rich just to eat. However, there seem to be an unusually large number of trackers for Master Wuhen today.

・Strange Fish

Lady Sishu caught some fish near the Mirage Boat. You found gunpowder inside them—specifically Wen Family gunpowder. Someone threw a lot of gunpowder into the water from the boat.

・The Stolen Vault

Shortly after the boat set sail, all the gift money for Master Wuhen's banquet was stolen.
According to Lady Siqi, the thief's methods are strikingly similar to Jun Bujian's.

[20] Talk to Officer Nan.

You report your findings to Officer Nan. He tells you he has a plan, and it's time to talk to Master Wuhen.

[21] Go to the private room upstairs.

Master Wuhen announces that his gift to everyone is the master thief.

[22] Look for suspicious people.

You find six suspicious people:
・Siqin
・Siqi
・Sishu
・Brave Jin
・Old Jin
・Master Wuhen

[23] Tell the Southern Farer your findings.

After reporting, Old Jin proclaims that he is the Phantom Thief.

[24] Catch up with Old Jin.

[25] Defeat Old Jin.

You tell him that you know he is not the Phantom Thief. Suddenly you hear:

And then the boat disappears.

[26] Talk to Old Jin.

[27] Investigate the area.

・Observe the actions of Sassy Seeress and others.
・Eavesdrop on the villagers' discussions.

[28] Search for clues.

[29] Follow the clues to Mercyheart Town.

[30] Talk to Officer Nan.

[31] Use Wind Sense to investigate suspicious locations.

[32] Investigate the bamboo and ashes.

[33] Investigate the ash fragments.

You think to yourself, "Half-burned bamboo and paper, blueprints, the shadow of a boat sailing away by itself… maybe that shadow was the real boat!"

Suddenly, the Phantom Thief interrupts your thoughts.

[34] Meet with the mysterious person.

He plays with the young master and doesn't show up.

[35] Use Wind Sense to find traces of the mysterious person.

He tells you that being from Well of Heaven, he knows Jiang Wulang.

In the end, he was only playing around with the young master to buy time.

[36] Find the mysterious person.

Just when you thought you caught him…

[37] Go back to find the Southern Wayfarer.

Officer Nan or should we say, Master Wuhen has a plan. Using the fish swarm, you were able to find the boat.

Finally boarding the boat, you see Jun Bujian impersonating Master Wuhen.

[38] Defeat the Phantom Thief.

Even after defeating the Phantom Thief, he still gets away as he made it rain gold with a fireworks display.
