Where the Soul Returns Quest Summary

You see a sickly farmer who is dragging a coffin by the road. A single sentence that causes you to ask a few questions. Who is in the coffin? Who is this farmer? And what kind of reason does he have to do this?

Quest conditions:

[1] Talk to the farmer and show him the Brotherhood Contract.
He looks sickly, and he seems to be carrying a coffin of Cui Xiaojin. You remember that the Lie brothers have requested you to look for clues about Cui Xiaojin. The old farmer asks you to help him get Cui Xiaojin home, and the brothers might be able to help too.

[2] Head to Harvestfall Village and look for the Lie brothers.
As you look for the brothers, you learned that the villagers hate Cui Xiaojin who was allegedly a deserter. The village chief tells you that Lie Bujin is in the Northern Vow Ruins.

[3] Head to the Northern Ruins and tell Lie Bujin about what happened.

[4] Head back to the farmer.
Lie Bujin confirms that the corpse is indeed Cui Xiaojin. The farmer tell you that Cui Xiaojin died saving a Khitan. For him, everyone, Khitan or not, were just tired of the war. He gives you a Secret Letter found on Cui Xiaojin's belongings.

Secret Letter

Xiaojin, the task we agreed on earlier—only you can do it. The outcome of the pass defense hinges on this. Set out under the cover of the night, and tread carefully.

[5] Lie Bujin asks you to help him bring Cui Xiaojin home.
In Harvestfall Village, he tells you that when his brother comes back, they will give a proper burial. He also tells you that the farmer sounds like he's Khitan.

[6] Return to the farmer.
Talk to him and find out his identity.

[7] Seeing the farmer die, you take the letter addressed to his wife.
But before anything else, let's give a proper farewell to the man. Gather flowers and place it beside the farmer. You can then cremate him.

[8] Meet Cai Zhu in Crimson Cliff.
You find Cai Zhu and her daughter waiting for her husband to come back. You tell her what happened. And it's up to you if you want to tell her daughter the truth.
