If Lian Daozi goes back, he loses everything. But if he doesn't, then where does he go?
The Longing and the Loss Walkthrough
[1] Talk to Qing.
Qing places the Peacock Crown on Lian Daozi's head. The siblings urge him to play for the crowd once more, but his discomfort is evident.
[2] Try to Distinguish Everyone's Words.
Since Lai En can't play his Pipa, the people are also chiming in that Lian Daozi should play it instead. Decline their offers.
He proposes to tell another tale. Unfortunately, it doesn't work this time because the crowd really wants to hear a song.
[3] Follow the Young Girl.
The Young Girl steps in just in time to save him from the peer pressure, and Lian Daozi follows her into a nearby storage room.
[4] Help the Girl choose a Bottle for Incense Making.
Assist the Girl by grabbing the bottle from the shelf.
[5] Place the Bottle on the Table.
Afterward, he carries the bottle and places it on the Kuchean Musician's table.
[6] Pick up a Flower from the Crown.
Lian Daozi plucks a flower from the Peacock Crown and tucks it behind the Young Girl’s ear as "proof". He also takes back his earlier claim that they were merely strangers who had just met.
[7] Listen to the Story.
As a sign of their deepened bond, Lian Daozi decides to share a story about his grandfather, who encountered an incense maker on his way to Chang'an.
The incense maker tells the grandfather of a Ghost Girl who sacrificed her rebirth to see her lover one last time. Her final scream was captured in a cursed incense that blinds or deafens others.
Others in the Inn are also listening to his story, and the Kuchean Musician shares his interpretation that if one's home has changed, they would be better off blind and deaf when they get there.
[8] Open the Painting to Start the Next Story.
Once the cutscene is over, accept the Main Quest to continue the story.
[9] Continue Writing the Letter.
Interact with the table so Lian Daozi can continue his letter.
When he reaches the moon at the end of the hall, the "Songs of Nowhere" Quest will be unlocked.
