Moths to a Shimmer Quest Summary

You hear Shan'er arguing with Nan Weiqing, a scholar. It sounds like he's a sneaky little rat. What could be the truth?

Moths to a Shimmer Walkthrough

[1] Go to the north of Buddha Fort to trigger the encounter.
You will hear the conversation between Shan'er and Nan Weiqing. Well, actually more of an argument.

[2] Listen to them some more.
It seems like Nan Weiqing has a note with him that Shan'er doesn't want to see.

[3] Use Celestial Seize to take the note from Nan Weiqing.
It seems like he wrote a poem! Here's the poem (Emphasis is added because it will be important later on the quest):

Your candlelight guides my path

I sing to the candle, the ways of life!
Like a moth to the flame, my days burn away!
You in green robes, haunt my heart still!

For you alone, I've lingered in silence till now!
...
Bright as the candlelight, when will you be mine?

Like moths to the flame, never ceasing!
...
"You live south of Yangtze, I dwell north of Qinghe."

Each day I think of you yet cannot see you.
Savor Parting Tears alone night after night!
...

[4] Recite the poem to them for Shan'er to know.
You find out that the scholar and Aunt Shan became close because of a certain poet. Shan'er leaves in disagreement.

[5] Catch up to Shan'er and talk to her.
She tells you that she wants to identify this poet that Aunt Shan seems to be obsessed with.

[6] To find out more about the poet, gain Scholar Nan's trust.
Choose the correct passages in his poem. These are the correct ones:
・Like a moth to the flame, my days burn away!
・Like moths to the flame, never ceasing!
・Savor Parting Tears alone at night after night!

[7] Go to Aunt Shan and find out more about the poet
You will notice that she is with someone else. Shhh, be quiet and don't go in. Eavesdrop on them instead. Aunt Shan will then leave and that's when you come in.

[8] Talk to the Noblewoman.
Optional: You can pick up the Tale of the Nameless Lord book.
You need to select the correct dialogue options for her. Here are the correct choices:
・Point at the painting of beauty.
・Flutter arms
・Nod solemnly.

[9] After learning about the Wriggler with the Noblewoman, find them by completing the objectives.
[a] Recite the poetry in the crowd.
A mighty goose will fight you, so be careful!
[b] Post the portrait of beauty on the Martial Billboard.
Zhang Buman will come out so suddenly for a fight!
After this, a little will show up, and she is the Wriggler, and she is looking for the elusive Cocoon Master!

[10] Gather your thoughts.
Select the following choices:
・Scholar Nan said what he could get from Aunt Shan is the Cocoon Master's writing.
・Sister Moth (Noblewoman) says she's never met the Cocoon Master, but knows he lives near this place.
・And the one she (the Wriggler) asked to help her share her gift with the Cocoon Master is Aunt Shan.

[11] Go back to Aunt Shan's home.
You will hear Shan'er arguing with Aunt Shan. She wants to destroy the poems.

[12] Convince Shan'er not to do it.
Start the Gift of Gab. After convincing her, you can interact with the book of poems.
A thick book of poems. The first half looks old and worn, the second half has fresh ink. It is signed, "Cocoon Master."

Whose lost youth were the faded poems about?
Whose dreams were reignited with the new ones?

You and Shan'er learn that Aunt Shan's dream ended many years ago. She got married and had her daughter. Time flew by. Sometimes, we find ourselves thinking about those lost dreams. It is best said by Aunt Shan, "We're drawn not to fire... but to the light of a dream we once dared to dream again."

[13] Visit Aunt Shan the next day at Chen hour.
You can wait or adjust the time in the settings.
You will see Aunt Shan enjoying her time with her group.

[14] End the quest by talking to Shan'er.
