What is Death Game Mode in Echoes of Aincrad?

Try to raise the stakes in Echoes of Aincrad with Death Game Mode. Once it's active, death becomes permanent! Your save gets wiped, you can't back it up or duplicate it, and you'll have to start over with a brand-new character from scratch.

Difficulty Settings Work the Same as Normal Mode

Death Game Mode can be turned on with any of the game's four difficulty settings: Story, Normal, Hard, or Very Hard, and you can change difficulty the same way you would in normal mode.

If you want the tension of permadeath without a brutal difficulty spike, try pairing Story with Death Game Mode. Prefer the full hardcore experience? Feel free to go with Very Hard instead!

How to Unlock Death Game Mode in Echoes of Aincrad

Unlocked after the First Playthrough

Death Game Mode unlocks after clearing the main story on Standard Edition. This lets you experience the story in normal mode first, then take on the intense challenge of Death Game Mode in a second playthrough.

Early Unlock for Deluxe, Ultimate, and Aincrad Edition Owners

Some editions unlock Death Game Mode right from the start, so no need to clear the Main Story first. If you want to jump into it as soon as possible, purchase the Deluxe Edition or higher.
