Scion of the Gods Guide
Scion of the Gods Quest Summary
Period: Bakumatsu - 1864 CE
The Imperial Palace was once the nexus of Japan's government, and it still commands great respect even after the shogunate's establishment in Edo. If Kunimatsu would sacrifice such a site to the Crucible, he surely intends to do the same to the entire country.
We must defeat Yoshinobu and his forces before they succeed in capturing the Imperial Palace—and with it, the Spirit Tree.
Scion of the Gods Walkthrough
[1] Continue through the Imperial Palace Crucible.
After entering the Crucible during "Final Hope", you will be tasked with this Mission.
[2] Search for Collectibles.
AREA 1 - Imperial Palace: Kenrei Gate
From the starting point, head right to unlock the nearby Bodhisattva Statue.
Pass through the gate, clearing out the enemies in your path, and then take a left.
Feel free to scavenge the area for loot. Once you're ready, head into the tunnel to progress.
Destroy the Spinning Crucinite enemies below and continue ahead. You’ll find a Spirit Vein at the end, which will take you to the next location.
AREA 2 - Imperial Palace: Grounds
When the second Bodhisattva Statue is activated, keep walking and follow the path down the slope.
Cross the rock formations to the opposite side, where you'll encounter a Magatsu Warrior and two enemies using cannons.

AREA 3 - Imperial Palace: Garden Pond
Just beyond the last Collectible, you will unlock the final Bodhisattva Statue inside a shed.
Make sure you're fully prepared before heading through the door! The boss encounter begins as soon as you enter.
[3] Defeat Okita Soji.
Important Note: If you haven't completed the "Peerless Katana" and "Solitary Blade" Sub-Missions, you have to face Okita Soji first before reaching Yoshinobu.
It will be extra challenging if you opt for the back-to-back boss battle, so it's highly recommended to finish the Side Quests first.
But if you have to battle Soji, here are a few Combat Tips to help you out:
・It is shown in the cutscene that Soji is wounded and weak, always exploit the opening when he coughs mid-battle.
・At half health, Soji begins drinking more from his Spirit Stone Gourd. His attacks become quicker and more dangerous, so keep your guard up!
| Move | Showcase | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Grab Attack | If you’re too close to Soji and his hand glows yellow or gray, prepare to dodge this Move! He can grab you and throw you onto your back. | |
| Dash Attack | Watch out for Soji's side-to-side dashes. If you get caught in this attack, it can stagger you. When you see the Red aura, use Burst Break to counter it. | |
| Katana Slashes | He can also slash his weapon to attack you from afar. Dash to the side to avoid the projectiles! |
[4] Defeat Tokugawa Yoshinobu.
Tokugawa Yoshinobu is the final boss of this Mission. He is a strong enemy who merges with a monstrous, two-headed Golden Shachi.
・Yoshinobu uses dual-katanas during the battle. In addition to the heavy attacks from the Shachi, you must stay alert for his rapid swings and slashes.
・Since he is a huge boss, you won't have a hard time landing hits. Keep your distance to react to his heavy strikes or close the gap when he's open.
| Move | Showcase | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Water Blades | Yoshinobu can use his swords to create Water Blades. There are two versions of this Move: ・He charges up before releasing two spinning blades in your direction. ・The Shachi jumps into the air while Yoshinobu rapidly slashes downward to create multiple water slices. | |
| Grab Attack | Look out for the Yellow/Gray glow on the Shachi's mouth. If it catches you, the Shachi will restrain you while Yoshinobu delivers a fatal plunging strike. | |
| Slash and Tail Swing Combo | One combo you'll frequently see is Yoshinobu attacking with his katanas, immediately followed by a tail swing from the Shachi. | |
| Orbit Slam | Shachi flies in a circular pattern before slamming itself into the ground. | |
| Spinning Golden Shachi | Keep an eye out when Shachi rises into the air, swirls, and then charges toward you. If there's a Red glow, time your Burst Break to counter this Move! |
[5] Cleanse the Imperial Palace Crucible.
With the boss defeated, your next task is to destroy the Crucible and purify the Imperial Palace!
Continue to the second part of "Final Hope" to unlock the "What Makes A Shogun" Mission.
