Light of Hope Guide
Light of Hope Quest Summary
Return to Edo Period - 1622 CE
Dark clouds hang heavy over Edo, and the area is infested with strange beasts. It is the same sight as on that awful day, but I am not the person I once was. I must fight through the castle and stop Kunimatsu.
Light of Hope Walkthrough
[1] Drive back the Yokai and make for the Underground Path.
After arriving at the objective marker during "To the Beginning", start this Quest by helping Yagyu Munenori defeat several waves of Yokai.
Once the coast is clear, use the Spirit Vein to break through the wall and create a new path.
To progress, climb the broken roof. You'll spot a nearby Shrine that you can unlock.
AREA 1 - Edo Castle: Garden
From the Shrine, take the path to the right, then crouch to pass through the gap. Continue along this trail to reach the next area.
Fight through more waves of enemies alongside Hanzo and Munenori until Gozuki spawns.
After defeating the large Yokai, a cutscene will play. It will showcase the immense strength you've gained throughout your journey so far.
When the cutscene ends, you will be rewarded with Guardian Skills for both Guhin and Nekomata. Don't forget to loot the Gozuki Soul Core nearby.
The three of you will part ways, as Hanzo and Munenori stay behind to hold off the incoming Yokai.
Use the Spirit Vein to the right of the fallen gate and cross to the other side.
AREA 2 - Edo Castle: Inner Gate
After reaching the Shrine, head down the stairs and eliminate the Jailer Oni.
Turn right, then drop down the well to enter the tunnels.
Follow the path to reach the lower level. At the end, you’ll find the entrance to the boss arena.
[2] Defeat Tokugawa Kunimatsu.
Upon entering the next area, a cutscene will trigger. Prepare for a rematch with Tokugawa Kunimatsu!
・During the first part of the boss fight, Kunimatsu uses a single sword infused with darkness and corrupted lightning.
・After depleting his health to 50%, Kunimatsu draws a second blade infused with the Wind element, gains the ability to fly, and unleashes a new dash attack that leaves a lingering damaging trail.
・Observe Kunimatsu's timing! Some of his moves have long wind-up animations. Use these windows as opportunities to land significant damage.
・Positioning is key, since Kunimatsu can quickly cover the battlefield with his elemental AoE skills.
| Move | Showcase | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Lightning Skills | Kunimatsu has several lightning abilities: ・He leaps into the air before delivering a powerful lightning burst. ・Start moving away when he slices the air and the ground starts to glow purple. This signals an explosive lightning blast that can knock you back! ・The boss can also fire lightning orbs directly at you. | |
| Guardian Spirit Summon | The battle becomes more challenging when Kunimatsu's Guardian Spirit unleashes its skills, such as Wind Waves, Cyclones, and multiple Whirlwinds. | |
| Flying Attack | In the second phase, Kunimatsu can fly into the air and quickly charge at you. Keep in mind that he can also teleport during this attack! | |
| Wind & Lightning Frenzy | One of the trickiest parts of this boss fight is that he can quickly execute both Wind and Lightning skills. Don't panic and maintain a safe distance to avoid his tornadoes and lightning strikes. |
Once Kunimatsu falls, attack him one last time to trigger a cutscene. This will lead into the start of "A New Era".
