Marrow Keep Walkthrough

[1] Take the egg to the Marrow Keep.

You will be transported to a different area and are now carrying the egg on your back. You will acquire Ruk's Map. It will show you a vague route to Marrow's Keep. Move forward on the path.

There will be no enemies on the way to the where the disciples are waiting. You entrust the egg to them. The front of The Marrow Keep will open itself up to you.

[2] Meet the Shellkeeper.

Enter and press on until you see the large lady in the circular room. She is Zhirelle, the Shellkeeper. She will state that Harros is gone, but the other shells still exist.

She will mark an Unknown Shell onto the map, along with a Beacon at Widow's Overlook.

[3] Explore Marrow Keep and the functions it possesses.

Exit the room and head to the Beacon. You can now use Gloom to level up and you can change your equipment.

Take the exit facing the front of the Beacon. Go down the stairs to the left.

Talk to Sister Genessa. She will do a mock battle with you to practice your guarding skills. After defeating her, you will obtain the Infinite Seal. From now on, you can train the combat basics with Sister Genessa.

Tutorial
The difference with Perfect Guard is that Parrying requires more precise timing but does greater damage. Some foes have Parry Resistance and will not break until the break bar is full.

Return upstairs and proceed to the path beside the stairs.

Turn left towards the stairs when you find the Feet Washer, Vratko.

Talk to Franz in order to upgrade your weapons.

Tutorial
The upgrade item needed by Franz for Melee Weapons is called a Muradean Actuator.

Return to the previous room and head right this time. Interact with the Gloom Siphon to hold on to your current gloom and ova so that if you die, they will not be lost.

Tutorial
Returning ova to Marrow Keep will give you rewards.

To the side is a passageway to the shopkeeper, Merrick. For now, all he can give you is the location of a new sidearm, the Forgotten Crossbow. After talking with others, you can talk to him again to access his shop. His shop will exchange locations of various weapons and sidearms for coins.

Merrick will also sell Tarstones. A Tarstone is an equippable item that can give character buffs, enhancement to weapons, elemental infusion into weapons, or special abilities. They are not attached to the Shell the Harbinger inhabits and thus will not be unequipped with Shell change.

Tutorial
Tarstones can be bought here or found in the world.

Go past Merrick and into the outside. Interact with the chair to obtain the Slayer Seal. The Slayer Seal uses Sidearms to deal break damage. It can also recover Health and Resolve upon using a Riposte. It helps in reducing the combat difficulty.

Tutorial
Equipping this will grant you the move Slayer Punch. You will become invulnerable and will dash a huge distance. Punching an enemy will deal a lot of break damage. If the bar gets filled up, a Riposte is automatically triggered.
Some achievements are disabled when the Slayer Seal is equipped while others can only be done using the Slayer Seal.

[4] Pursue the Unknown Shell.

Now, head out through the other exit of the Egg Room and use the lift to bring you to the surface.

Interact with the northern device so that you can be flung to a Beacon on the map. In this case, to Widow's Overlook. In the Beta, you will be restricted to this device only.

Head down the path past the flag.

There is a boss in this area called the Great Arbiter of Flesh. They are optional to fight against. If you find the enemy too difficult for now, you can always run away and leave them for later. Mortal Shell 2 likes to emphasize on player choice in exploration.

Go down through here, whether you battle the enemy or not.

Launch yourself on this in order to get the map from the statue above or to talk to Ruk.

Go through the wooden gates into the small empty village.

Right in front of the village is a Shell. Choose to inhabit the Shell.

Go around the house and break in. Enter the dwelling and take the bottle. After finding it empty, the apothecary will come in. Tiel will ask them for more of what they're seeking.

You have now acquired the Shell, Tiel. Their ability is Lingering Shadow. It enables you to to be undetectable for a short period of time and then be able to perform Shadow Strike with a dagger. You also gain Shadow Dash where if you dodge right before getting attacked, you will gain Shadow and deal some Stagger damage against the opponent.

Tutorial
Enough Stagger damage will make the foe gain Stagger.

Pick up the container in front of the nearby house to gain a Permanent Pickup (PP). These are equippable items that have active or passive functions. Active PPs consume charges which reset when you rest at a Beacon. Obtaining more quantities of a PP will increase your Familiarity with them. This will unlock more passive benefits.

Tutorial
Not every number of stacks a PP needs is the same so just collect as much as you can!

From here on out, you can choose where to go. You can explore other areas or return to Marrow's Keep.
