Where to Find The Warden
The Warden is located at the center of the Citadel of Penance. Teleport to the Beacon inside the fortress.
From the Citadel Beacon, follow the path and jump down from the ledge to the bottom floor.
Turn right and take the lift up the tower. Head to the center of the building and watch the boss trigger the fight by crashing through the roof.
The Warden Attack Patterns
The table below displays the attack details of The Warden.
| Attack | Description |
|---|---|
| Horizontal Blow | The Warden horizontally sweeps his great axe forward with great force. Harden or guard as soon as it swings its weapon to block the attack. |
| Reverse Swing | He quickly pivots and brings his axe to the left before unleashing a heavy swing. Harden or guard as soon as the axe reaches its final position. |
| Crushing Slam | The boss leaps and slams his great axe into the ground, shattering it. This attack cannot be blocked or parried, so dodge after a brief moment when it becomes airborne. |
| Four-Hit Slam | The Warden slams the ground with his weapon four times in a row, leaving flames behind. These cannot be blocked or parried, so dodging the attacks and avoiding the areas struck are key to preventing damage. |
| Four-Hit Spinning Strike | The boss spins three times, swinging his weapon each rotation before blasting the ground with a final strike. The two swings after the first are slightly faster but can still be avoided by spamming dodge. |
How to Beat The Warden
[1] Blocking its back-to-back strikes is the best way to bring it down.
The Warden favors rapid swings that easily overwhelm and break the player's guard if blocks are mistimed. However, several of its fast swings can be exploited with well-timed blocks or hardening, setting it up for a Riposte.
[2] Equip the Arbiter's Prize and deal burst damage.
Equip the Tarstone: Arbiter's Prize to apply Bloodcurse, dealing a massive burst of damage after building enough stacks. The Axe and Dagger is the recommended weapon pairing for this as its fast attack speed can apply the Bloodcurse stacks quickly.
[3] Equip the Burnt Effigy to mitigate burn damage.
The Warden's flaming great axe inflicts burn with every strike. Equipping a Burnt Effigy to reduce or cure the status ailment can be handy if you get hit.
[4] Tiel is an excellent shell choice for this fight.
His Shadow Dash ability excels in battle as it is often triggered by the Warden's single-hit attacks. Additionally, Tiel's fully upgraded Shadow Strike deals high damage while inflicting 10 Poison stacks that constantly drain the boss's health.
[5] Equip a Grisha Remnant for the chance to summon a phantom to assist in battle.
Equipping the item in the passive slot gives a 2% chance of summoning a Grisha phantom for every melee attack you land. The summon is powerful enough to stagger the boss, interrupting it and giving you time to recover.
