Kunai and Kirin First Battle Guide
[1] Don't worry about losing during your first encounter.
During Chapter Eight, the player faces Kunai and Kirin while escaping the Crater. There are no consequences for losing this battle, as the story progresses regardless of the outcome. If the fight proves difficult, letting Emma fall is also a quick option to move the story forward.
Kunai and Kirin Second Battle Guide
[1] Learn Kunai and Kirin's attack patterns.
The table below displays the attack details of Kunai.
| Kunai | |
|---|---|
| Attack | Description |
| Double Slash | Kunai swings her sword twice, with the second swing covering considerable distance as she leaps forward. Both attacks can be blocked or parried, but the second swing comes out slightly faster, so adjust your timing. |
| Lightning Blade Surge | She charges her blade with lightning before stabbing it into the ground, causing a large lightning surge. Dodge or reposition as soon as she raises her sword to the side to avoid the blast. |
| Triple Thornblade Strike | Kunai covers her sword in massive thorns before spinning twice, striking with each rotation and finishing with an overhead slash. All three slashes can be parried or blocked, but note that the final strike has a slight delay. |
| Lacerating Plunge | She launches herself upward before plunging her sword toward the player. This attack cannot be blocked, so dodge as she jumps for a perfect dodge, then punish her during the recovery. |
| Triple Lightning Slash | Kunai jumps into the air and sends three lightning projectiles in succession. All three can be parried, but the last wave has a slightly different timing, so adjust your parry timing accordingly. |
| Counter | Kunai's greatest asset is her ability to counter after parrying your attack. She follows the parry with a spinning kick and a slash, making reckless attacks especially risky. |
The table below lists all the attack details of Kirin.
| Kirin | |
|---|---|
| Attack | Description |
| Triple Homing Spikes | Kirin fires three homing projectiles that track the player's position and leave mobility-restricting puddles on impact. Keep repositioning to evade the attack or dodge just before they hit to perform a perfect dodge. |
| Pounce | The beast pounces at the player, triggering spikes to erupt from its landing point. It can perform this attack up to three times or until one connects. This attack can be parried or blocked, so guard just before it lands. |
| Thorn Charge | It grows several thorns across its body before charging at the player. It can repeat the charge up to three times or until one connects. The attack can be parried, blocked, or avoided by extending Emma's hair upward. |
| Water Jet | Kirin lowers its head before firing a water jet from its horn. Parry the attack or move sideways to avoid the stream. |
| Water Jet Spin | Kirin glows brightly before firing the same water jet while spinning, sweeping a large area around itself. Each hit can be parried or blocked. You can also avoid the sweep by extending Emma's hair upward. |
[2] Kunai can counter melee attacks.
Kunai can interrupt your attacks with a spinning kick and slash counter. She can repeat this several times in a row, making extended combos difficult to execute. Avoid spamming attacks to prevent triggering her counter and wait for a clear opening instead.
Binding skills like Botan: Chaser II or Higanbana: Roots can disable her, giving you a safe window to unleash a combo.
[3] Kirin makes puddles that restricts mobility and amplify Kunai's attacks.
Kirin's Triple Homing Spikes leave puddles that on the floor that limit movement. It can also create these puddles directly around itself. These can become electrified when struck by Kunai's lightning attacks, shocking the player if they are standing in them. Avoid the puddles or dodge the projectiles just before they hit.
[4] Exploit their weakness to Poison.
Equip Hunter's Sword, Poison Bolts, and Poison Arrows, as both enemies are susceptible to Poison-type attacks.
Koo can also equip items and skills like Bottle of Poison or Poison Fang. His Dokuzeri: Fang I & II skills can apply the ailment, while Skill Mods such as Poison Expert and Status Effect Amp can further boost the effect.
