Combat System - Is it Soulslike?
Beast of Reincarnation is an Action Role-Playing Game (ARPG) with many elements similar to "Soulslike" games while introducing its own unique combat mechanics.
Finding its own identity through combat.
The game blends real-time action with aspects of turn-based combat that creates a flexible system, allowing players to approach battles in their own way. It features parrying, finishers, skill tree customization, and plenty of combat options.
Players take control of Emma, a sword user that combines her skills and techniques with the abilities of her dog companion, Koo. Together, they fight blighted entities and traverse the post-apocalyptic ruins of Japan to find the source of the mysterious blight known as the "Beast of Reincarnation."
Understand the two gauges above an enemy.
Enemies have two gauges displayed above them. The upper red one represents their Health while the orange one below it is the Down Gauge. While reducing the enemy's health will defeat it, filling the Down Gauge first creates a lethal opening that allows Emma to instantly execute targets.
Learn the benefits of parrying.
The game emphasizes parrying as a core combat mechanic for avoiding damage, building up the Down Gauge, and replenishing FP. Each successful parry adds a charge to the FP bar in the lower right of the screen.
Once you have enough FP, you can select a Bloom Art from Koo's arsenal to unleash on your target. The heads-up display shows each Bloom Art's effects and FP cost. In addition to dealing damage and inflicting ailments, these also raise the enemy's Down Gauge.
Note: Time slows down while selecting a Bloom Art, allowing you to briefly plan your next action.
Experiment with combat combinations.
The game offers various ways to approach group encounters. Use Koo's crowd control skills to bind enemies and disrupt their attacks, then decide whether to execute them or focus on other foes. Experiment with different combinations to find what works best for your playstyle.
