Ogouchi Buffer Zone Summary

We go back 5 months in time when Emma is investigating the abandoned village at the Ogouchi Buffer Zone. She follows the words of fallen golems and eventually finds the Nushi, Rangifer. While she weakens Rangifer, it is able to escape. Instead of letting her go after it, her Cleanse Walker partner, Brad, suggests she goes back to the Walker instead to recover.

Ogouchi Buffer Zone Walkthrough

[1] Look for clues.

The girl's voice returns, narrating the state of the world. It is 4026 A.D. A great miasma took over the world called 'the blight'. It had changed animals into what are now termed "Malefacts".

Humanity has mostly lost hope of fighting against the blight. However, the capital receives a message from the east, saying that there is hope in the place Ogouchi.

The timeline moves back to 5 months ago. Emma and Koo arrive at the Ogouchi buffer zone. They are talked to by Brad with some kind of wireless device. Emma is called the "Purifier". She has the mission to find the Nushi in the area and exterminate it.

Move forward and find the Camp: Checkpoint.

[2] Talk to the Rusted Golem.

Head over to the building with smoke billowing at its entrance.

Enter the ruined house and talk to the golem by the pillar. It will give Emma information about the Nushi's whereabouts. It says to find the subcity at the end of the road.

[3] Defeat the malefact.

Right after you exit the building, a malefact will appear.

[4] Search for the subcity.

You may go around and defeat more enemies and explore or keep following the quest marker.

There is a broken bridge that can only be crossed with hair. A campsite can be found at the other side.

[5] Defeat the malefacts in your path.

As Emma goes on, Bart will inform her that he detects a spike in Blight levels. He suspects that the blighted forest that only appears after dark is responsible.

Malefacts will start appearing after Brad goes offline. Defeat them the ones you encounter until Brad contacts you again.

[6] Search for the subcity entrance.

Go west and follow the quest marker.

Examine the wheel to open up the entrance to the subcity.

[7] Defeat the Golems.

As you go underground, Brad will tell you that he detects a large number of golems in your way.

Defeat all the enemies to open up the door.

[8] Defeat the Elite Golem.

This elite golem attacks quicker than the regular golems. Make sure to be patient and anticipate when to parry. It is also weak to Koo's Higanbana Roots which can also bind it.

[9] Search for the foreman.

Talk to the Rusted Golem and they will reveal themselves to be the Foreman. They comment that Emma must defeat the Nushi and that this Nushi only comes out when it smells a threat.

Violet notices that Koo has found something. it is the Zangetsu Bow.

Practice using the bow on the vases in the room.

[10] Chase the Nushi to its lair.

Go back to above ground.

You and Koo notice that the plants around you have started to undergo hypergrowth.

The Nushi you have been seeking has come and found you.

Emma and Koo hide since right now, they don't have the element of surprise. The Nushi has them at an disadvantage. It tries to look for the 'intruders' of its territory but can't seem to find them.

It cries terribly, probably warning the ones who have been causing ruckus here (us).

[11] Chase Rangifer and defeat it.

Emma and Koo leave their hiding place, planning to go after the Nushi while they have the advantage.

Before you go, find the nearby campsite to get ready for the boss battle. Nearby, a stronghold box with Chain Mail will be there.

Follow the quest marker and finally find Rangifer. You will notice that its position keeps on moving.

You can try to do a jump attack on Rangifer to get a head start but be forewarned that you must aim for its head if you want to attack.

Rangifer attacks by swinging its head at you, so take note of that for your parry. It is weak to Koo's Higanbana: Seeds so consider leveling that up if you haven't.

Emma will receive Rangiferine Memories and the Nushi Skill: Sakura Storm. Rangifer will run away, and though Emma wants to chase after it, Brad says it's better for her to return and recuperate in the Walker.

[12] Return to the Walker.

Emma returns to the Walker and we finally see what Brad looks like.

You will open up the menu where you can identify your spoils from battle and upgrade the Walker using upgrade items you've found.

You can now do a number of things in the Walker. You can talk to Brad and trade with him. You can create things at your workbench or manage your skills and attributes. You can also take a shower which will increase your rapport with Koo. If you wanna explore the area even more and find more items, you can depart and go outside.

After all that is done and you are prepared to leave the area, go to bed.

Emma will start to reminisce when she first met Koo.

[13] Go out and quell the blighted.

A flashback to the past starts. Emma is woken up by Violet.

She opens the door to a golem who gives her instructions to get rid of the blight.

The golem treats Emma poorly, saying she is no better than a Malefact as she was born with the blight.

Violet resents the golem for talking as such as it's not as if they are human.

Leave the house and move forward. Defeat the golems that come at you.

Press forward.

Go deeper into the forest. Emma comes across a Biwafruit. Violet encourages her to pick some.

Emma will find an injured wolf malefact.

The malefact's reactions give Emma visions of....a memory? Violet seems to see it too.

[14] Follow the wolf malefact.

The wolf disappears. Follow its tracks.

Bear malefacts appear! Defeat them.

Keep going forward and you will find the wolf under a large blighted bloom.

The wolf wakes up and attacks Emma, giving her another vision. It seems that the wolf is called "Koo" and it seems to have a mission.

Despite the fact that Koo is a malefact, Emma decides to bring home the injured Koo and let them rest.

Emma finishes reminiscing. Go to bed and leave the Cleanse Walker in the morning to go to the next area.

[15] Head to Subcity 03.

Make your way to the area Brad marked and use the wheel to open up the entrance to the subcity.

Make your way downstairs.

Emma tries to open the door with no luck. The retired gatekeeper nearby tells her the Nushi is beyond the door.

The only way to open the door is to acquire 3 keys: red, blue, and yellow.

They give you the Red Key.

They say that the Blue Key is with a nearby watchman and that the Yellow Key is in Tailwater Village.

In order to help Emma, the golem also provides her with a sword, the Cirrus Sword.

[16] Find the Blue Key.

Find the lookout shack.

The watchman there no longer speaks. Take the Blue Key by their side.

[17] Find the Yellow Key.

Travel the mountainous path to Tailwater Village.

Defeat the elite enemy there to obtain the Tailwater Key.

Head to the door at the left side and open it.

Talk to the golem. They are the keeper of the Yellow Key.

You obtain the Yellow Key. Brad then contacts you to tell you that Kagura has woken up and you should return to the Cleanse Walker.

[18] Return to the Cleanse Walker.

Talk to Kagura.

[19] Visit the Ogouchi Colony.

The scene transport back to when Koo left Emma's house while she was asleep.

Violet asks Emma what she plans to report when asked about the malefact. She basically says she will report what happened and Violet rejects the idea. She tells Emma to just repeat what she says instead.

Go outside and head to the Ogouchi Colony gate. The guard will pretty much want Emma gone.

Violet tells Emma to show the biwafruit and the guard lets her in.

Go the the apothecary. They are on the left side after a narrow passageway. They only offer a measly 200 over the biwafruit so Violet tells Emma to reject the offer.

On her way back, Emma sees the girl who sends her food being scolded by a golem.

If you talk to her, Emma will offer her the biwafruit but she will not take it.

[20] Take care of the malefacts.

At Emma's house, she is visited by the girl again. The colony apparently needs Emma to get rid of more blighted.

The girl introduces herself as Kagura and thanks Emma for being kind to her.

Exit Emma's house and go up the cliffs.

Get rid of the golems and malefacts below.

After getting rid of the blighted, Emma hears loud noises.

When she checks them out, she sees Walkers that bear the symbol of the capital.

[21] Answer the official summons.

Emma gets an official summon from the colony and goes to see what is happening.

Overseer Shuri tells her that she has received an edict from the Administrator.

She is told to slay the Beast of Reincarnation. An uproar occurs among the residents.

The Beast of Reincarnation is a great monster that wrecks havoc on the land every 100 years. It is undying and resurrects even after it is slain.

They believe that since Emma can seal multiple strains within herself, perhaps she can put an end to this beast once and for all.

Emma is immediately ordered to head to the capital with their fleet of Cleanse Walkers. Violet is against this, thinking there's no way Emma would survive such a thing.

Suddenly, a giant beast roars and jumps to the center of the square, in front of Emma.

Kagura trips and falls while trying to run away and Emma saves her.

Run away from the malefact. Avoid the barricades from the rubble.

Emma and Kagura are trapped by the monster and knocks Kagura out. Emma is hit with a large stomach wound, leaving her incapacitated and bleeding on the ground.

Before the monster can give Emma a killing blow, Koo saves her by attacking the malefact with large pipes.

Seeing the injured Emma, Koo transfers some of their vitality to Emma through his tail into her hair. This is 'entanglement'.

Emma and Koo come together to fight against the beast.

[22] Defeat Nue Malefact.

Nue Malefact has a lot of electric attacks so watch out for when they strike the ground with lightning! Watch for the red light and do perfect dodges to avoid getting damaged.

One must jump to be able to attack Nue Malefact effectively.

Nue Malefact doesn't go down but is distracted by a sound from afar. In the middle of it, Brad comes in and saves both Emma and Kagura.

While the Cleanse Walker escapes from the colony, a mysterious man appears. It seems that he was the mastermind behind this.

[23] Talk to Kagura.

Kagura apologizes for not helping Emma fight against the monster.

Brad asks Kagura if there's anything she can do in the Walker. She is assigned to be the Walker cook.

[24] Find the Nushi

Kagura asks Emma if she's heading out soon. Brad tells Emma to make sure they know that's going out to fight so that they know where she is. Emma doesn't exactly understand any of these sentiments but she agrees.

Return to SubCity 03 and place the keys in the mechanism to open the door.

Face Rangifer once again.

[25] Defeat Rangifer.

Rangifer is now at a higher level and now has some extra moves. Some attacks from them need to be perfectly dodged. While some have upgrades like a stronger version of the head swing alongside its usual head swing.

It will then have a phase 2 where it becomes even more destructive. There are less chances to parry this time around but there will be times you can use your hair hook to launch up into the sky then target its head on the way down. It's good to try and direct your perfect dodges towards Rangifer as after its stomping attack, it will be vulnerable for a few seconds.

Rangifer finally falls down after being slain...

Or so it is thought. Vines and roots from its body reach out and try to constrict and strangle Emma and Koo. They end up entangling with her hair and his tail respectively. After such, they both faint.

Nue Malefact from earlier appears and tries to devour the unconscious duo but is stopped by the mysterious man.

Brad is heard to be talking to a woman who they will likely meet in the next zone.

[26] Talk to Kagura and Brad.

Emma wakes up back in the Cleanse Walker and is greeted by Kaguya.

Brad now has his mask off and comments about how Emma was really able to deal with a Nushi. He says that they're going to the next zone soon so Emma should prepare before they depart as she cannot leave the Walker while they travel.

Brad tells Emma he did well and Violet agrees. Do all you need to do in this zone before leaving. Koo will obtain the Bloom Art Sakura: Javelin. Emma will receive a Blade Art: Sakura.
