Nue Malefact Summary
The seemingly eyeless beast is initially encountered during a flashback inside the Ogouchi Colony. This fight marks the first cooperative battle between Koo and Emma.
Nue Malefact First Battle Guide
[1] Look out for the lightning strikes.
Nue Malefact summons five consecutive lightning strikes that target the player's last location. The roots around its body will glow as it howls, while electrical sparks appear on the floor to signal the attack. A red flash briefly appears before each strike, so dodge or reposition by walking around the arena to avoid getting hit.
Koo's Higanbana: Roots can disrupt the Nue Malefact's lightning strike attack.
[2] Parry or block the double tail spin.
The boss growls shortly before executing two consecutive spins, whipping the player with its tail during each rotation. These attacks have long windups, making them good opportunities to parry and gain FP.
[3] Its single left claw swipe can be parried.
Nue Malefact uses its left claw to swipe at the player. Guard as soon as you see it raise its arm to perform a successful parry.
Tip: Using Entanglement Overdrive at the right time will speed up the fight, as you are able to punish the boss without any retaliation.
Nue Malefact Second Battle Guide
[1] It is encountered once again in the third map.
While investigating the source of the signal in the Great Wall Terraces, the creature suddenly reappears for a rematch.
[2] The boss is susceptible against poison-type attacks.
Nue Malefact is weak against poison, use the available items and recently acquired skills to your advantage:
- The merchant golem near the Mountain Plaza: Forefront campsite sells a Poison Bolt manual.
- Use Emma's Nushi Skill: Dokuzeri Shower and Koo's Higanbana: Dokuzeri that were obtained from Lacerta.
- Equip the Hunter's Sword obtained from the monk golem in the second area, shortly after the first boss fight in this map.
[3] Beware of its new and modified attacks.
The beast glows bright red and roars before performing a pounce attack. Watch for the red flash and wait for it to briefly stop in the air before dodging. If you maintain enough distance, the boss may fail to reach you during this attack.
Nue Malefact performs a new claw swipe combo consisting of five consecutive claw attacks followed by a body slam finisher. It is best to memorize the rhythm of each swipe, as the timing between attacks are quite varied.
The boss rapidly elongates its tail, striking the player with the tip. Wait until the tail tip is very close before evading to successfully execute a perfect dodge.
The Nue Malefact raises its arms and body before performing a body slam. When the red flash appears, dodge to avoid getting crushed.
[4] It will keep moving after you significantly reduce its health.
The creature retreats to different areas of the map after its HP is significantly reduced. Continue pursuing it until you reach the final area, where the encounter culminates in a dual boss fight against Nue Malefact and Shidou.
