To Live is to Suffer Summary
Musashi makes his way to Yasaka Pagoda, only to find carnage and death, and the one responsible: Sasaki Ganryu. The swordsman has become a murderer who absorbs human souls for power, accompanied by Gioh, the spirit residing in his gauntlet. Musashi is heavily outclassed and near death, only to be spared by Ganryu. He considers consuming human souls himself to gain power, but decides against it, thanks to Takamura.

To Live is to Suffer Walkthrough
[1] Head to Yasaka Pagoda
Follow the map and make your way to the Yasaka Pagoda. Once you arrive, bodies of dead samurai are littered everywhere.
[2] Defeat Sasaki Ganryu and Gioh
Sasaki Ganryu has been corrupted by the Oni Gauntlet's influence, resorting to murder in order to gain more power. Gioh, an Oni like Shizuka herself, has also been corrupted in both body and mind by Ganryu's depravity. Musashi declares that he will send him back to Hell!
Despite his efforts, Musashi is outclassed and nearly killed by Ganryu's power. Fortunately, he is spared by Ganryu out of pity.
After his loss against Ganryu, Musashi contemplates consuming human souls to gain more power. He struggles with whether to follow the same path and become a beast, or stay away from it.
Takamura talks him out of it by imparting one of Buddha's teachings: to live is to suffer. He reminds Musashi that life isn't without its challenges, and it won't bend to anyone's convenience, so it's better to embrace what it gives than to fight it.
