Onimusha Way of the Sword_Prologue

Prologue Summary

Musashi Miyamoto is a samurai who seeks to prove his strength to the world. He defeats the master of the prestigious Yoshioka school but gets chased down by the school's disciples.

After he escapes, he ends up in a duel with another samurai, Ganryu, when they're both attacked by monstrous beings called Genma. Musashi is killed but wakes up in a limbo-like world, where a Man in White forces a gauntlet onto him, giving him the power of the Onimusha.

He returns to the real world and defeats the Genma with his newfound power. He learns his gauntlet is sentient, and the voice inside urges him to make his way to a temple to meet someone.

Prologue Walkthrough

[1] Complete the combat tutorial and defeat the Yoshioka swordsmaster.

After choosing the difficulty and controls, we meet our protagonist, Musashi, being fished out of a river. He's presumed dead, but he acts as if he'd just woken up from a nap. We then watch him face off against a well-known samurai in a fight that serves as the game's combat tutorial.

Walkthrough 1A

Tutorial
You can always change the difficulty settings later without any consequence!

Make sure to watch your opponent's stamina. When it's depleted, you can land a lethal strike called Break Ikken, which instantly kills regular enemies and deals heavy damage to tougher ones.

Walkthrough 1B

[2] Defeat Yoshioka's followers.

After defeating Yoshioka, his followers all attack Musashi, causing him to run away. Meanwhile, Yoshioka is dragged off by an off-screen enemy.

Walkthrough 2A

Musashi can't escape forever and eventually gets cornered. This is where you learn to Parry. Guard right before an incoming attack lands to open a window of vulnerability on the enemy. Parrying is more effective against armed attacks.

Walkthrough 2B

Tutorial
The enemy crashing into objects or other enemies after being parried will deplete their stamina again!

You will also learn how to do a Reflex Dodge. This means dodging right before an attack hits. Attacking right after this will deplete the enemy's stamina significantly. This is more effective against unarmed attacks.

Walkthrough 2C

If an enemy tries to grab Musashi, part of them will turn blue. Dodge right before they get him to trigger a Grab Reversal. This will deplete both the enemy's health bar and stamina.

Walkthrough 2D

Tutorial
Take note that grabs cannot be parried or blocked!

Musashi wins the fight but keeps running and flees to the rooftops. The followers continue the chase and eventually knock him down, which is where you'll learn the game's lock-on controls.

Walkthrough 2E

Musashi can use the objects around him to fight as well! Use them for protection or to attack the surrounding foes.

Walkthrough 2F

More disciples come Musashi's way and he eventually escapes by letting a large log destroy the bridge between him and the others.

Walkthrough 2G

[3] Watch the cutscenes.

Musashi is bothered by another swordsman named Ganryu Sasaki.

Walkthrough 3A

As they are about to duel, Ganryu is taken down by a monstous-looking swordsman. More of these monstrous beings come after Musashi and he is heavily injured.

Walkthrough 3B

Musashi wakes up in a red-tinted world, submerged in water up to his chin. He is woken up by the Man in White who tells him that Musashi had died and was on his way to hell but was pulled out by him. He offers Musashi a gauntlet that will give him the powers of the Oni, a race of powerful beings that have dwindled has time has passed.

When Musashi refuses, the man forces it upon him.

Walkthrough 3C

[4] Defeat the Genma.

Musashi wakes back up being attacked by the monsters, seeing that he is wearing the gauntlet. Unlike before, he can deal with them more easily.

Walkthrough 4A

The game names these monsters as Genma. They are a race of powerful demons. Defeat all of the ones in the area.

You will learn Issen. It is a very high risk, high reward technique and requires very precise timing. Instead of dodging or parrying, attack the enemy right before their attack lands in order to do a counterattack with great damage output.

Walkthrough 4B

You will also learn how to have Musashi absorb the souls around him. Yellow souls will restore his health.

Walkthrough 4C

Musashi tries to cut the gauntlet off of him but fails. The gauntlet then speaks up, making Musashi realize it's sentient. It tells him to go to Rokudo-chinnoji Temple and find Ono no Takamura.
