There are a total of 36 Lion Dogs in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Collecting a certain number of them unlocks Sword Appearances. Find all Lion Dogs to unlock the trophy, For the Love of Dog.

How to Find Lion Dogs
Most of the Sword Appearances can be unlocked by finding Lion Dogs. You unlock the Lion Dogs after completing the quest, What Lurks in the Shadows. Lady Mursaki will tell you all about them. Simply find the Lion Dogs on the map and interact with them.
You will need to progress the game because Lion Dogs can be found in the different maps.
Unlocks Sword Appearances
When collecting a certain number of Lion Dogs, you can unlock different Sword Appearances.

 Myogo | Find 18 Lion Dogs | A new look for Musashi's sword. A swordsmith prayed to every god in the land, and this was the result. (Also affects his wakizashi short sword.) |
 Ura-giri | Find 24 Lion Dogs | A new look for Musashi's sword. Filled with the fire of an Oni who was slain for betraying his kind. (Also affects his wakizashi short sword.) |
 Mooncrossed | Find 30 Lion Dogs | A new look for Musashi's sword. This moon-given gift is so beautiful, it's almost frightening. (Also affects his wakizashi short sword.) |
 Kikoku | Find 36 Lion Dogs | A new look for Musashi's sword. Though beautiful, it is haunted with the night-time wails of weeping Oni. (Also affects his wakizashi short sword.) |
