Best Weapons Ranked

The best weapons in Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival are the Shotgun, Revolver, Pistol, Skullcrusher, and the Jagged Messer.

While some weapons may be more powerful than others, they may lose out on other features like inventory space, ammunition capacity, durability, and more. Some weapons are also more effective against more enemies, while others are much less effective.

5 Best Weapons in Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival

Weapon NameRatingMost Effective Against
ShotgunAll Enemies
RevolverBosses and Single Target Enemies
PistolBosses and Non-special Enemies
SkullcrusherAll Enemies (except Bosses and the Possessed Cultists)
Jagged MesserAll Enemies (except the Armored Cultists and Unworthies)

[1] Shotgun

Shotgun Examine

When to Use

The Shotgun is a powerful weapon best used from short to medium distance. It has a 6-round magazine, high stopping power, low rate of fire, high recoil, and slow reload speed. At first glance, this makes the weapon only good against bosses, single or small groups of enemies, and at a limited range.

Strengths and Weaknesses

However, that is not the case in actual combat. The Shotgun has a decent fire spread that can hit and stagger multiple enemies, as well as compensate for its supposed low accuracy. The distance you can accurately hit enemies is also practically perfect, as you are highly unlikely to fire at enemies from a long distance. The stopping power it has per shot is enough to take down most enemies, so you most often won't need to reload in the heat of combat.

Lastly, the reload speed is not a downside if you can also just reload one bullet, shoot at an enemy to stagger it, and reload another bullet, then repeat the cycle. An alternative is that you can even finish off enemies with another weapon after spending all your Shotgun bullets, which is enough in most combat situations.

Its only weakness is that it takes a lot of inventory space.

Attachments

The Shotgun's damage becomes unmatched with two of its attachments: Dragon Breath Rounds and Full Choke. Dragon Breath Rounds will ignite targets on hit, and Full Choke increases the overall damage of the Shotgun. Add the Extended Mage Tube attachment and your magazine size increases to 8, reducing your need to reload.

Verdict

The Shotgun is the perfect gun for any situation and has tons of strengths that far outweigh its single weakness.

[2] Revolver

Revolver Examine

When to Use

The Revolver is a strong but slow-firing weapon that is useful in almost any situation except against groups of Armored enemies or Unworthies. Just like the Shotgun, the Revolver has a 6-round magazine, high stopping power, low rate of fire, high recoil, and slow reload speed, but has high accuracy at all distances.

Strengths and Weaknesses

In actual combat, the Revolver can do almost the same things as a Shotgun, except for going against large groups of enemies. It's power is enough to take down most enemies with a single headshot or a few shots to the body. However, its low fire rate and single-target fire make it hard to take down multiple enemies quickly and efficiently.

Its advantage at long distance is mitigated by the fact that a lot of enemies move their heads and bodies a lot, making it hard to hit them at a distance. Worse, missing a shot on running enemies has more risk than using a Shotgun, which has a fire spread to compensate for its "lack" of accuracy. Its ammunition is also expensive, so using it too much or having a bad aim with it might make it less valuable than what we make it to be.

Attachments

Most attachments of the Revolver are lacklustre as they mostly strengthen what the Revolver is already good at, or slightly compensate for a weakness at a negligible level. In our case, the Overpressure Ammunition, Fine-Tuned Barrel, or *Snap Hammer are the best attachments as they increase the gun's damage, accuracy, and rate of fire, respectively.

Verdict

The Revolver is a must-carry for its serious damage, but can be outshined by a few other guns when against large groups of enemies.

[3] Pistol

Pistol Examine

When to Use

The Pistol is a reliable weapon for all situations, as it is decent in all aspects of combat. It has a 7-round magazine, decent power, decent accuracy, decent rate of fire, decent recoil, and above-average reload speed.

Strengths and Weaknesses

The Pistol has no standout strengths or weaknesses. It is average in all aspects of firearm combat, but the amount of ammo you can bring is incomparable to other weapons. It is the most cost-efficient weapon when exploring as it is enough to deal with Cultists and Unworthies, as well-placed shots are all you need. Its ammo is also the easiest to craft and cheapest to buy in-game.

The only weakness we can point out is that other weapons are simply stronger per shot and sometimes more suitable against large groups of enemies (such as Possessed Cultists) for their high rate of fire.

Attachments

The best weapon attachments for the Pistol are the .45 Super Rounds and Oversized Magazine Release. The .45 Super Rounds let you deal more damage against armor plates, and the Oversized Magazine Release makes reload speed quicker.

Verdict

The Pistol is best for exploration and the most cost-efficient weapon next to the Shotgun.

[4] Skullcrusher

Skullcrusher

When to Use

The Skullcrusher is a blunt weapon that can be found in almost all stages in the game. It has high power and force, decent swing speed, long reach, and high durability.

Strengths and Weaknesses

The Skullcrusher is one of the most cost-efficient melee weapons you can bring in Hellraiser: Revival due to its high power, durability, and effectiveness against armored enemies. It can deal with most enemies in melee combat and easily stagger them with a couple of hits.

Its most obvious downside is that it is a melee weapon, making it inefficient against large groups of enemies (especially Possessed Cultists) and making you more vulnerable to attacks compared to firearms since they can hit you back at melee distance. As a melee weapon, it is also an unreliable tool against bosses that can fly or are very mobile. The fact that it can also break make it less reliable than guns.

Lastly, the damage dealt (despite what the stat bar shows) is inexplicably lower than what guns can do in the game.

Verdict

When left to use a melee weapon, the Skullcrusher is your go-to choice.

[5] Jagged Messer

Jagged Messer

When to Use

The Jagged Messer is a bladed weapon *effective against enemies without armor and can dismember easily. This makes it useful against regular Cultists, Unworthies, Armored Minibosses, and a couple of bosses.

Strengths and Weaknesses

The Jagged Messer is the most durable melee weapon in the game with high damage, fast swing speed, and decent reach. It is extremely reliable against unarmored enemies and can still be effective against groups of enemies. However, it is completely ineffective
against armored enemies
since it deals no damage to the armor durability or the enemy at all. The one exception is the Armored Miniboss, whose weak points are its exposed arms that need to be dismembered to be defeated.

Being a melee weapon, it also has virtually the same weaknesses as the Skullcrusher.

Verdict

When left to use a melee weapon, the Jagged Messer is a decent choice against unarmored enemies.
