What Is Aniimo?
Aniimo is a free-to-play, open-world creature-catching action RPG developed by Pawprint Studio. The game takes place on Idyll, a living continent inhabited by creatures known as Aniimo.
You play as a Pathfinder, exploring the world to discover and capture Aniimo, then bonding with them through Twining. With multiple regions to explore, real-time combat, and activities like farming, decorating, and multiplayer challenges, the game offers more than just creature collecting.
The World of Idyll
Idyll is divided into several distinct regions, each with its own environments and Aniimo. The six regions currently listed by the developers are Mistwoods, Echoback Landing, Sea of Flowers, Blitzwood, Nimbus Fields, and Forest of Falling Stars.
Different Aniimo can be found in different regions, with some creatures showing adaptations to their habitats, weather, and other environmental conditions.
What Are Aniimo?
Aniimo are the magical creatures that inhabit Idyll. They come in different forms and have their own personalities, abilities, behaviors, and relationships with their environment and other Aniimo they interact with.
They aren't just creatures that exist to be collected, they have their own families, habits, and lifestyles.
Catching and Collecting Aniimo
Players can discover and capture Aniimo throughout Idyll. Aniipods are used for catching them, with players also able to set traps and time their catches.
Aniimo can also behave differently depending on factors such as:
- Environment
- Weather
- Phenomena
- Time of day
Aniilog Entries
For example, Budclaw is a shy, crab-like Aniimo that can dig through different terrains but has poor vision underground. If it hits a rock while digging, it becomes dizzy, giving players an easier opportunity to catch it.
Nimbi, a cloud-shaped sheep-like Aniimo, can also react differently depending on its surroundings. Its body becomes incredibly light, allowing it to jump to great heights, while thunderstorms can cause it to behave differently.
Most Aniimo can also evolve, giving players another way to develop their collection.
Combat System
Aniimo features real-time combat with two different ways to fight. Command Mode allows players to direct their Aniimo and use their skills during battle, while Twine Mode lets players transform into an Aniimo and fight directly using its abilities.
Each Aniimo has its own skills and elemental attributes, giving them different strengths and ways of fighting. Combat also features systems such as EP for managing skills and BREAK, which can be used to create openings against enemies.
Aniimo also have unique Traits that can provide additional effects during combat, allowing different creatures to have their own strengths and playstyles.
What Is Twining?
Twining is one of the game's defining mechanics. Twining allows the Pathfinder to essentially become an Aniimo after forming a bond with it. You can use its unique abilities for things like:
- Exploration - Traverse the environment using abilities such as gliding, diving, or burrowing.
- Combat - Fight using the Aniimo's abilities.
- Puzzle solving - Use different Aniimo abilities to overcome environmental obstacles.
- Discovery - Experience Idyll from the Aniimo's perspective and interact with the world differently.
Twining is a unique experience that will allow players to experience Idyll from an Aniimo's point of view, including becoming more involved with their relationships and way of life.
Other Activities
Aside from exploring Idyll, catching Aniimo, and battling, there are other activities you can take part in throughout the world.
You'll have your own Homeland, which can be customized with decorations and other items. You can also grow crops there and have your Aniimo live alongside you, giving you a place to return to between your adventures.
There's also an RV located at a campsite, which can be used as another place to spend time and interact with other players. You can also visit Astra, a major city in Idyll where you can meet other Pathfinders.
Other activities include Egg Heist, a PvEvP activity where teams of three search for eggs while competing against other teams.
These activities give you more things to do in Idyll outside of simply catching and battling Aniimo, whether you want to focus on exploring, collecting, farming, decorating, or spending time with other players.
