The Way of Dual Katana Walkthrough | Ghost of Yotei

Rumor has it that the old dual katana master is hiding out on Mount Yotei. Maybe he'll teach me his technique.

The Way of Dual Katana is one of the Atsu's Hunts unlocked after completing the Prologue. You can get there by following the Gold Ginkgo Leaf marked on the west side of your in-game Map.

Optional Activities to do while heading to Mount Yotei

・When you've finished The Old Inn Quest, head to the Matsumae Crossing for the Building Bridges Side Tale. You'll be hired by the commander to keep watch and catch the person who's sabotaging the construction.

・If you picked up the Bounty Poster for the Crow Genzo at The Old Inn's Board, you can fight him first near the Objective Area for this Main Quest.

・Want to get a new horse and be able to name it? Go to the stables southeast of Shikotsu Woods for the Old Trails Side Quest.

1 Search Mount Yotei for the Duel Katana Master

・As soon as you arrive at the Mountain Trail, there will be a Standoff against Saito's Men. Be prepared before heading here!

・Go to your left after the duel and follow the path with a lantern. You'll see a gap where you can squeeze through.

2 Climb Mount Yotei

・There are pitfalls around the area (often hidden by dead leaves), so watch your step! You can still climb back up using your Grappling Hook.

・Keep walking until you're greeted by the wolf. This means you're on the right path.

・Squeeze through another gap and continue climbing. You can collect some resources in this area like the Yotei's Shadow Rose and Mushroom.

3 Find the Dual Katana Master's Home

・Navigating through the Mountain Trail isn't easy. You'll need to jump and use your Grappling Hook again to reach the other side.

・As you progress further, you will see a small homestead. Before heading there, make sure to open the nearby Chest.

・When you reach Hanbei's House, Atsu will comment that it looks more like a Farmer's Hut.

4 Search for Signs of the Dual Katana Master

・Check if there's really a master in this house! Go to the back to get inside and examine the Katana.

・Atsu recognizes Hanbei's Katana. It was made by her father, Kengo. She asks for his help in learning the Dual Katana technique.

・It looks like Hanbei needs some more persuasion before he agrees. Follow him and climb the mountain.

5 Train with Hanbei

・After your conversation, Hanbei will come around and give you a chance. Pick up the training sword nearby.

・For your first training, time your attacks to hit the burning coals that Hanbei throws at you.

・Complete this challenge and Hanbei will ask you why he should train you. Atsu can choose between "Vengeance for us both" or "To honor my father". This won't affect the Quest except for the dialogue, so choose what you like!

・Hanbei finally agrees and by the next morning, you'll continue training your left arm to be as fast as your right.

・Cut through the bamboo a few times. Don't worry about failing this one, it's really meant to be hard.

・Atsu and Hanbei will talk about Saito at night. He shares that Saito wants to keep this land free of the Shogun's control and hundreds believe that. You can reply "Not me" or "He's manipulative". Feel free to choose whatever you feel best.

・For the second day of your training, you'll have another shot at cutting bamboo. It's okay to fail this again.

6 Relive the Past: Collect Mushrooms

・When it's night again, Atsu and Hanbei will talk about the night when her family was killed.

・Atsu blames herself for what happened and there will be another flashback.

・As the Child Atsu, collect some mushrooms with Jubei.

・While hiding in the tall grass, the twins will see a wolf. It will eventually run off once it hears a gunshot from Saito.

・Clueless, the children talk to Saito. Atsu sees his Katana and invites him to see his father, who's a swordsmith. They will also accept his help in collecting mushrooms.

7 Relive the Past: Return to Home

・The two innocent children lead the way and Saito reveals how Kengo was a "traitor" that left Clan Saito since they didn't agree how they were invading villages for supplies.

・The flashback ends with the remaining Yotei Six invading the entrance of their house.

8 Complete the Training

・Make the final attempt and strike the bamboo! Complete this one to increase Atsu's Spirit.

・Hanbei praises you and gives you the Katana that was made by Kengo.

・Train again by hitting the burning coals. But this time, with two swords.

・After this, Atsu will unlock a new Melee Weapon, the Dual Katana.

9 Follow Hanbei

・Hanbei invites you for a toast back at his house for finishing the training.

10 Defeat Saito's Men

・Hanbei's house was set on fire! Looks like the outlaws find a way around the traps he set.

・Test out your weapons here and kill them. Katana increases Stagger damage against Swords such as Katana and Odachi.

・There will be a Ronin that you'll battle afterward where you can try the Tempest Attack.

・This Quest will end with Hanbei telling Atsu that the men came from an old fortress in the marshlands. Looks like a solid lead!

・Atsu's bounty will also be increased and updated to "Vengeful Mercenary". This will make other Ronin hunt for her. Better watch your back for encounters from now on.
