Beavers: adorable little fluffballs perfect for a cuddle session, right? Not if you ask farmers and ranchers, who've considered them a major pain in the ass for years. These industrious dam-builders flooded fields, blocked irrigation, and even turned farming equipment into sinkholes thanks to their burrows. No love lost there.
But here's the plot twist: in 2014, researchers discovered that beavers might actually be ranchers' unlikely BFFs. Their dams, when placed just right, can keep streams flowing longer during dry months, grow more grass, and even improve grazing land for livestock.
So yeah, it wasn't exactly love at first sight - but give them a chance, and beavers might just qualify as "friends with benefits."
