How to beat The Fallen

[1] Study his patterns and wait for openings

learn the patterns

The Fallen is a difficult first boss, fitting for the pioneers of the Metroidvania genre. But his attack patterns are easy to understand. Finding openings will be easy.

[2] Attack twice or thrice when he is open

attack twice or thrice

Whenever The Fallen is open for attacks, only limit your attacks to twice or three times. It may look like you can do more, but after that third attack he will be ready to attack again. So only limit to that number of times to give yourself time to reposition.

[3] Never attack from behind when he does his Claw Slash

Remember, he can turn around and attack again for his third strike. You may have an opening to attack when his back is turned, but the game will punish you for being cheeky. Only attack when he is done attacking.

[4] Learn to use the three dodges

learn the dodges

Rose has three kinds of dodges: sliding, backstepping, and backflipping. If you are not moving, she will backstep, do it again while backstepping, and she will backflip. If you are moving, she will slide—which is not good for most of this boss fight. This could put you in a corner where The Fallen can attack you with no way to escape. Backflipping is Rose's best way to stay safe, unless she is in a corner, in which case she should start sliding.

The Fallen Rewards

The Fallen will grant Rose the following upon his defeat:
