Otto, The Flesheater Overview

Otto, the Flesheater, is a Mist Lord boss found in Brandrgarde. He was once a royal researcher from the Capital before a mining accident left him trapped and starving, eventually driving him into madness. The soul experiments further twisted his body through Gyldenization, transforming him into the flesh-devouring monstrosity known as the Flesheater.

The battle becomes increasingly dangerous as Otto's health falls, with the final portion of the fight triggering his enraged state. His powerful close-range attacks become even more threatening during this stage, making it important for Hunters to take advantage of openings before Otto can overwhelm them.

Otto, The Flesheater Location & Requirements

Otto can appear in Brandrgarde, where he may spawn in either the Sealed Grounds or the Main Hall.The exact location can vary from run to run, so check the map to locate the Mist Lord once he appears.

The encounter is tied to the Flesheater's Feast quest line. This requires completing Iron and Fire, Life Must Go On, Reunion, and Siblings, and upgrading your Tavern to Level 2. The quest Mist Lord's Power requires you to defeat Otto, with Braving the Storm as its prerequisite.

Otto can also be challenged in Einherjar Mode, a harder version of the encounter. During earlier testing, this mode could be unlocked by finding a Dried Flower Knot while exploring Brandrgarde.

Requirements:

• Reach Brandrgarde.
• Complete Iron and Fire, Life Must Go On, Reunion, and Siblings.
• Upgrade the Tavern to Level 2.
• Complete Braving the Storm to unlock the Mist Lord's Power quest.
• Locate and defeat Otto, the Flesheater in either the Sealed Grounds or Main Hall.

Preparation

Bring a Balanced Team

Otto has high resistance to ranged attacks and magic, making melee damage particularly valuable. However, ranged damage becomes more useful later in the fight when Otto's golden hazards make staying close more difficult. A balanced team with a frontline, ranged DPS, and support can adapt to both situations.

Withered Knight and Mercenary are strong frontline choices, while Sorcerer and Blackarrow can provide consistent ranged damage. Seer is particularly useful for healing, shields, and buffs.

Otto can be fought solo, but the encounter is significantly more difficult without teammates to divide his attention and provide different sources of damage and support. If you're having trouble defeating him alone, bring a team while learning the fight.

Prepare for the Final Phase

Otto becomes significantly more dangerous as the fight progresses, eventually filling parts of the arena with golden hazards. Bring enough survivability and sustained damage to handle the latter half of the encounter rather than building entirely for early burst.

Save Your Resources

Avoid spending all your strongest abilities and consumables at the start of the fight. Keeping some resources available for Otto's more dangerous attacks and final phase can give you the extra damage or survivability needed to finish the encounter.

Take Advantage of His Aggro

Otto tends to focus on one Hunter at a time, allowing the rest of the team to attack while he is occupied. If he targets a frontline Hunter, ranged teammates can safely deal damage from a distance. If Otto switches targets, be prepared to reposition and avoid letting him catch you off guard.

Attack During His Openings

Otto's attacks follow recognizable patterns, giving Hunters opportunities to counterattack once they finish. Avoid forcing damage while he is attacking, especially during his larger sweeping attacks. Wait for a safe opening before committing to heavier attacks.

Adapt Your Positioning

Melee Hunters should avoid staying directly in front of Otto for extended periods, while ranged Hunters should maintain enough distance to react to his charges and leaps. Otto's large sweeping attacks can catch nearby teammates, so be aware of where the rest of your team is positioned.

Adapt to His Second Phase

At around half health, Otto enters his second phase and gains golden Gyldenblod-enhanced attacks. These create additional hazards around the arena, making it more difficult to stay close to him safely.

Prioritize positioning once these hazards appear. Ranged Hunters can take advantage of the additional distance, while melee Hunters should wait for safe openings instead of forcing attacks through the hazards.

Preserve Safe Space

Be deliberate about where you move when Otto creates persistent hazards. If you're targeted by an attack that leaves damaging pools behind, lead it toward an area where it won't interfere with the rest of the team. Avoid spreading hazards throughout the arena and unnecessarily reducing the team's room to maneuver.

Wait for His Health Bar

Otto begins the encounter asleep. Wait until his health bar appears before attacking, as damage dealt before this point does not count and only wastes your energy.

Dodge Diving Slash

When Otto dives toward a Hunter, dodge forward as he lands rather than to the side. Dodging sideways can leave you exposed to his follow-up claw attack.

Dodge Red Attacks

Otto turns red before using his unblockable attacks. Do not attempt to block or parry them. Create distance and dodge out of their path instead.

Move Around Raging Slash

When Otto begins repeatedly slashing while moving forward, avoid staying directly in front of him. Move around his sides or back away from his range to avoid the attack.

Watch for the Gaps

Rock Throw and Ground Wave send rocks or shockwaves across the arena with gaps between them. Look for these openings instead of automatically retreating from the attack.

Manage Gyldenblod Hazards

Otto's Gyldenblod attacks can leave dangerous areas around the arena. If you're targeted by one of these attacks, avoid moving around unnecessarily and lead the hazards toward the edge of the arena. This keeps the center of the arena clear for the rest of your team.

Don't Stack Behind Otto's Target

Otto's attacks can hit more than just his current target. Even when he's focused on another Hunter, his wide swings and area attacks can catch nearby teammates. Give the targeted Hunter room to maneuver rather than stacking directly behind them.
