General Harald Overview
As of writing, General Harald is widely considered the strongest known boss in Mistfall Hunter. Being a Mist Lord, the game's top boss tier, he drops highly coveted loot and equipment. This guide covers information regarding his location and what you need to know in order to beat him.
General Harald Location & Requirements
Harald is fought in Hallowgrove, via the main quest "Secrets" that leads you to him. Along the way, you will have to fight a few enemies before he makes his entrance.
You can fight him in Normal, Chaos, or the harder Einherjar Mode, accessible by using the Dried Flower Knot at the altar. Defeating General Harald in this mode rewards high-tier loot, reflecting the difficulty of the fight.
General Harald Moveset
Harald wields a large sword, giving him long and wide-reaching attacks. His signature move is a freezing area-of-effect attack that locks up everyone caught in its path. The core principle for this fight is to spread out and avoid his AoE attacks.
Here are the moves you need to watch out for:
| Move | Description |
|---|---|
| Permafrost | Stabs his sword into the ground and summon multiple patches of snow that impale players caught in the area |
| Frozen Ground | Points his sword at an area to summon ice spikes |
| Frost Orb | Summons icy projectiles that target impaled players. Often used as a follow up attack to Permafrost or Frozen Ground |
| Leap Slide Slash | Jumps and slides to an area, summoning ice spike along his path. Shortly after landing, he slashes in an area around him |
| Slash + Stab | Slashes twice and charges a stab |
| Frozen Slash | Slashes the ground releasing ice spikes along the blade's path |
General Harald Strategy
Because General Harald is arguably the hardest boss in the game right now, it's best to learn his moves and timings on Normal difficulty first. While Chaos gives better rewards, it's also immensely harder.
It's also a great idea to build slightly more tanky, even if you are a non-tank class. Fighting against bosses is usually a war of attrition, testing if you can endure their attacks over a long period of time. Having extremely high damage won't matter if you aren't able to dodge all of General Harald's attacks. Having a "safety net" of resists and defenses will make runs easier.
General Harald Rewards
General Harald can drop the following highly coveted loot:
- Gyldenblod
- Holy Wulfen Einherjar Weapons
- Wolfrunner’s Relic
General Harald Tips & Tricks
Spread Out
Avoid clumping together and getting caught by the devastating AoE freeze attack.
Respect the Reach and Damage
General Harald's range is bigger than it seems, so be extremely wary. As a ranged class, keep your distance and safely deal damage from afar. For melee classes, stick close and be on guard for any potential attacks the boss might throw at you. This makes it easier to block, parry, or counterattack whenever possible.
It's also best to time your DPS windows and stop blindly attacking when he becomes enraged. Instead, create and keep space, only dishing out damage when there is a safe opportunity to do so.
Manage Resources
Harald has many telegraphed attacks that are extremely punishing if you have empty stamina bars. Dodge the tells, do not panic-roll, and keep enough resources to escape the freeze follow-up.
Bring a Team
Soloing General Harald is a brutal endeavor, and there's no shame in fighting him with backup. Going solo leaves you vulnerable to instantly dying to one of his moves without someone else to revive you.
