Introduction

Mistfall Hunter is a brutal, dark-fantasy extraction action RPG where every fight can cost you everything you've looted. As a Gyldhunter, you'll be forced to fight both monsters and players for highly coveted loot. This guide will help shed light on the combat systems needed to survive the Gyldenmist and walk away with your life.

Dying in Mistfall Hunter causes players to drop their inventory, losing all their hard-earned loot. Every encounter carries risk, which makes fully understanding the game's systems and mechanics the great denominator between successful Gyldhunters and dead ones.

Fundamentals

Instead of mashing buttons and hoping for the best, combat in Mistfall Hunter revolves around chaining light and heavy attacks into meaningful sequences. Timing is everything, and getting it right is foundational to finding success in fights.

[1] Use Both Light and Heavy Attacks

Light attacks are fast and help build combos toward heavier finishers. Learning when and where to insert a heavy attack during a chain is core to maximizing damage per opening.

[2] Utilize Free-aim Targeting

The game uses a precision free-aim system. You can aim for enemy weak points rather than just swinging in a general direction, adding another layer of depth to encounters.

[3] Stamina and Resource Management

Long combo chains cost a lot of stamina. Overextending and forcing a combo that can't be finished will leave you exposed for a counterattack. Managing your stamina usage and resources ensures that you have the means to defend yourself and punish enemies.

[4] Defense and Spacing

Against both monsters and rival Gyldhunters, controlling the distance between you and your opponent is crucial. More often than not, having a great defense and looking for an opportunity to counterattack will be more than enough to defeat most enemies.

PvE

Corroded creatures and monsters make up much of the enemies you'll face while exploring. When fighting against them, make sure to:

Reading and understanding attack patterns before attacking or committing to a combo ensures that you are able to decide which course of action should be taken. Overcommitting against a monster with a delayed attack can easily cause you to lose a sizable chunk of health, or worse.

PvP

PvP encounters are entirely different. These encounters test mechanical skill and game sense rather than pattern recognition. Rival Gyldhunters are also here to loot, making every encounter a gamble. If the previous sections of this guide were training, then PvP encounters will be the application.

The game features 6 classes, all with different skills and moves. Aside from gaining mastery over a single one, it also helps to learn and familiarize yourself with the others to understand how they work. This lets you anticipate what other players are thinking of doing, and avoid getting surprised by a skill that you weren't aware of.

[2] Maintain Situational Awareness

Being aware of your surroundings is another key skill to have. Tracking enemy movement and other external factors that may affect your ability to win a fight is crucial. This lets you decide whether to continue the fight or disengage to pick another favorable one. Awareness also helps you avoid being killed by a third party during an encounter.

[3] Nonconfrontation is an Option

Keep in mind that before engaging in a fight, figure out whether it is worth the risk. Sometimes the smartest combat decision you can make is just avoiding the fight altogether and slipping past unnoticed, letting you keep your loot safe and sound.

Tips and Tricks

Here are some general tips and tricks you can keep in mind during your next runs:

[1] Coordinate with your Squad (Co-Op)

Chain combos together, call out targets and cooldowns, and coordinate focused attacks against specific members of your enemy squads.

[2] Learn from Death

Death is a costly endeavor. Fortunately, you gain the opportunity to learn from your mistakes and treat every lost piece of loot as the price of experience.

[3] Practice

Keep practicing. Mistfall Hunter is by no means an easy game. Unless you are the top 0.1% of players who are geniuses from the start, practice does not mean perfect. Keep training your combos and decision-making to sharpen your instinct and get more loot in future runs.

[4] Use Consumables Wisely

Consumables take time to be activated. Healing in the middle of battle isn't always a good idea, as you can get staggered and become an easy target. Try to use consumables in moments where you're sure not to get hit or behind cover.

Other consumables like tactical items and buffs are also great for tilting the odds of the fight in your favor. Buffs grant temporary stat boosts, and tactical items can disrupt enemy actions or combos.

[5] Use the Environment

As with any action game, utilizing the environment to your advantage is what separates good players from great ones. Use cover to hide from opponents, corners for surprise attacks, and high ground for ranged attacks or setups. There are even areas with which traps can be placed for unsuspecting enemies, making them easy pickings.
