Introduction
Going solo in Mistfall Hunter is an option for players who don't have people to play with, or would much rather prefer to play on their own. As lone Gyldhunters that enter the arena, solo players must be self-sufficient and be able to do what a team of 3 can do all by themselves. Here's how to find success as a solo in your runs.
Best Classes for Solo
Classes have a huge impact on finding success as a solo player. There are classes that are best for individual combat, while others are more suited for support and team-oriented roles.
Shadowstrix
As of writing, the current best class for solo runs is the Shadowstrix. Stealth is king, and being able to ambush unsuspecting enemies or slip out with relative ease will always give Shadowstrix players an almost unfair advantage.
Mercenary
Mercenaries rely on their strength to overpower enemies. Backed by offensive melee skills and engage options, they are suited for players who like to play aggressively.
Blackarrow
Having range and mobility are the key strengths of the Blackarrow class. While it can prove to be a strong contender against the other classes, it usually requires more skill and foresight to use, as having proper positioning during a fight is crucial. Many classes have gap closers and can easily rush and overwhelm a ranged opponent.
Honorable Mention: Withered Knight
The Withered Knight is the tankier counterpart of Mercenary. While not as offensive as the previous classes, it boasts a good amount of reach and defense, suitable for players who like to play a bit more defensively.
Playing as a Solo
While the map and core gameplay loop are the same across Solos and Trios, there are a few differences between the two when it comes to strategy and decision-making.
[1] Plan routes
Without allies to divide tasks and responsibilities with, your runs are entirely your own. Good route planning is an integral skill to have when it comes to solo play. Keep routes short and quiet to be efficient and avoid unwanted encounters.
[2] Have an Objective
Instead of blindly running around looting the whole map, think of realistic goals that can be accomplished during your runs, and build your route around it. Focus on getting in and out as fast and as safe as possible.
[3] Manage Resources
As a solo player, you have access to less inventory space than a team of 3. Manage your slots, consumables, and any necessary equipment for your run. Be mindful and conserve healing items so you can have a safety net to fall back on when push comes to shove.
[4] Don't be too Attached to Gear
Death causes gear and loot to drop, so don't grow too attached to it. When starting a run, only bring what you need, and what you can afford to lose.
[5] Time Your Extraction
While many solo players agree that having no teammates means that there's no one to bring you down, it also means that there is no one to pick up your slack or bail you out. Timing is everything, and having a clean exit strategy will ensure runs end cleanly.
General Tips & Tricks
[1] Reduce Risk
Avoid uncertain fights and leave with a smaller, secure haul rather than risking getting a bigger one. While better loot might be nice to have, there is a chance that you leave with nothing at all, so choose your battles wisely.
[2] Don't Overstay
Solid advice regardless of whether you're playing solos or trios, but it rings more true when going solo. If you're looking to complete a specific objective or get some materials, grab them and get out. Maybe complete a quest if it's on your way to the exit, but you really don't want to hang out in the lobby longer than you have to. Otherwise, you're going to get yourself killed.
[3] Listen for the Heartbeat
Because Shadowstrix is pretty much the undisputed king of solo PvP right now, it's no surprise that most lobbies comprise stealth mains. However, when a Shadowstrix is invisible, there is an audible heartbeat sound that reveals if one is nearby. Keep your ears open to avoid nasty surprises.
[4] Set up Ambushes
It's pretty easy to stealthily slink around the map when solo. If there is a player nearby, you can try to set up an ambush and try to surprise them. Fights can end quickly in solo, so having the chance to hit first will be important.
[5] Third-Party
Sneak up on unsuspecting players in the aftermath of a fight, and you've got yourself an easy target. Before joining a fight, you can wait until it's over and one of the players is already down to low HP before dashing in and claiming all the loot for yourself. Honor won't put legendary equipment on the table.
