How to Unlock the Tadpole Vehicle and Upgrades Guide
Summary
The Tadpole is a must-have vehicle for exploring the deep waters of Subnautica 2! It's a single-pilot submarine that provides unlimited oxygen to the pilot while powered.
| No | Tadpole Features and Functions |
|---|---|
| 1 | Power Cells run out and may need to be changed or recharged at the Tadpole Dock. |
| 2 | Drive carefully! The Tadpole can take damage from hostile creatures or by colliding with obstacles. It can also only go 250 meters deep (without any upgrades) and will start deteriorating once it enters the Crush Depth. Use a Repair Tool and use it directly on the vehicle to fix it up. |
| 3 | The Tadpole has four upgrade module slots where you can install various modules to improve its performance. |
| 4 | The Tadpole can be equipped with the Scout Ray Chassis (increased speed) or the Tadpole Haul Chassis (built-in inventory space). However, only one can be equipped at a time. |
| 5 | Playing in multiplayer mode? Friends can hitch a ride by latching on to the side of the Tadpole while you pilot. |

How to Build a Tadpole Vehicle in Subnautica 2
[1] Collect 3 Tadpole Fragments.
Players must find at least three fragments to unlock the blueprint, though plenty more are scattered around.
| Tadpole Fragment Locations |
|---|
Near the Great Jaw, a Tadpole Fragment is found along with the Nahema - "Stop trusting NoA" Data Entry. |
Head inside the Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage) to get this Tadpole Fragment. |
There's also a Fragment to be scanned northwest of the Lander Garage. |
Southwest of the Welcome Center Abandoned Base, there's another Tadpole Fragment. |
A Fragment is located at a Small Wreck, northeast of the Old Habitat. |
Go to the northeast of Anita's Bunker to find this Tadpole Fragment. |
There are two fragments (1 & 2) to the south of the Cicada Wreck (Empty Hold). |
| Note: Check out our Interactive Map to spot them faster! |
[2] Prepare the Required Equipment and Facilities.
| Required Equipment and Facilities | Recipe |
|---|---|
Tadpole Dock & Moonpool Of course, to own a vehicle, you need a place to park it. Use the Habitat Builder on a spacious Moonpool and build a Tadpole Dock. Make sure the Moonpool isn't placed too close to the ground, as the Tadpole needs enough space. A good trick is to build it on top of other rooms connected through ladders or somewhere higher up in your base. | Tadpole Dock: ・Titanium Ingot x 2 ・Silver Ingot x 1 ・Copper Wire x 2 Moonpool: ・Titanium x 5 |
Vehicle Fabricator A Tadpole can be created using the Vehicle Fabricator. | ・Titanium Ingot x 1 ・Copper Ingot x 1 ・Glass x 2 |
[3] Collect Materials to Build the Vehicle.
| Tadpole Recipe |
|---|
| ・Titanium Ingot x 2 ・Glass x 1 ・System Chip x 1 ・Power Cell x 1 |
Once all the materials are collected, craft the Tadpole at the Vehicle Fabricator!
How to Unlock the Tadpole Vehicle and Upgrades Notes
Tadpole modules can be crafted at the Modification Station.
Here's a list of available upgrades to choose from:
