Dinoblade is a soulslike PC game where you play as a dinosaur that uses swords to fight other sword-wielding dinosaurs. The premise is that this journey will help the dinosaurs against the threat of looming extinction...sounds wild, right?
This project was conceptualized by Jean Nguyen (@jeananimate on Instagram and Youtube) in 2022. It started off as a personal animation for the creator, just trying something out for fun.

It featured shots of dinosaurs using large blades with their mouths, one of them even using a clip from the popular anime Bleach of a character speaking "Bankai". Bankai is when a character goes into their super swordsman mode which is only achievable once you have developed mastery of your own sword. As it is a popular trend in itself, it appealed to a lot of people.
As reiterated by Jean when it was first posted, there was no ambition to create this into a game.
The initial videos got some buzz, but this escalated further when people started sharing it on the popular forum site, Reddit. Below is not the original shared post, but it can be found that people shared information about Dinoblade over and over again throughout the years.

People fled to the posts, asking Jean to make a full game out of his concept. It got meme-ed a lot by several people and in October, 2023, prayers were answered. Jean started officially working on the game.
Currently, Dinoblade is at more than 500,000 wishlists on Steam and is set to come on July 23, 2026.
